Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCAs) Facts and Information

TCA's are also given when someone is experiencing panic attacks. Some important facts and information about Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCAs) -

They can cause drowsiness, so may affect a person's ability to drive or operate machinery, but some antidepressants are more likely to cause drowsiness than others.

This drug is not suitable for people who have heart problems, or severe liver disease.

Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCAs) may not be suitable for people who have diabetes, heart, liver pr thyroid disease, epilepsy, glaucoma or kidney problems.

These antidepressants are advised not to be taken with certain tranquillizers or with the herbal remedy St John's Wort as it will cause an adverse reaction.

Often, these drugs can be taken just once a day - usually at night.
