Clinical Depression, Symptoms and Treatment for Clinical Depression

Depression is a serious mental and emotional disease. If the depression persists for as long as six month, or more, it is called clinic depression and needs professional treatment. There are three main types of clinical depression: unipolar, bipolar, and dysthymia. Clinical depression prevails among an estimated 12 per cent of population. It is reported in all ages, races, and both genders. Even chronic depression is curable, but it takes much more time, effort and medication.

Symptoms of Clinical Depression

The clinical depression symptoms are easily recognizable, if you are in close contact with the depressed person.

  • He/she feels upset all the time, with or without reason - the person who suffers from clinical depression will feel overwhelmed by even the smallest negative thing that happens; at that time they feel that they need to end their lives, because they are not worthy to live.
  • He/she cannot, despite their best efforts, enjoy their free time with friends. You will observe that the depressed person would prefer to be alone with his/her thoughts and not bother about company and having fun.
  • The Clinical depressed person would develop continuous headaches, stomach aches very similar to ulcer pains, chest pains and so on. On checking out with a doctor, they would not indicate that anything is amiss.
  • Possessing a very low self-esteem - this is one of the most obvious clinical depression symptoms, i.e. low self esteem. The person would not mind any mistreatment from anybody, because they would really believe that they were not worth any better treatment.
  • The depressed person will tend to forget things; initially small things, but later on the forgetfulness will turn out pretty scary.

Causes of Clinical Depression

There is no single cause or single type of causes responsible for depression. Each case of depression appears to be the result of a unique combination of physiological and environmental factors. A major known physiological cause of depression is the insufficient quantity or inactivity of the neurotransmitter serotonin.

Clinical Depression Treatment and Remedies

There are quite a few excellent remedies that can answer to the treatment and cure for each of these clinical depression symptoms. There are medications for depression, but it's still better to use natural remedies. The John's Wort is a special herb which is famous for the treatment of depression. Then there is acupuncture which has been proven highly effective, excellent (if I may say) in any some of the cases.

To properly diagnose the Depressive disorder, one must consult a physician for relevant tests.
